Thus I Flourish, motto of the Christie clan

I’m a filmmaker from Vancouver, Canada, the unceded traditional lands and waters of the sel̓íl̓witulh,  xʷməθkwəy̓əm, & sḵwx̱wú7meshsi Nations, and all their ancestors. I do not take for granted, the beauty, wealth and wonder of this beautiful place I call home, or that my family has lived here peacefully on their land for almost 100 years. For this I am always grateful.

I studied film production at Simon Fraser University, and started working on television commercials right after graduation.  Over twenty years later, commercials have armed me with an incredible wealth of production experience. I love the creativity and tight knit crews on commercials, and whether big or small, every one is its own exciting challenge.

My documentary work explores the interesting spaces where film meets popular entertainment and social justice. In December of 2021 my most recent feature documentary Pat Rocco Dared premiered at the Whistler Film Festival. It’s a love letter to filmmaker and activist Pat Rocco that I co-directed and co-produced with Morris Chapdelaine.  It’s played in festivals all over the world and won several awards including best documentary and best director.

In 2009 I produced and directed the feature documentary Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride that won ten best documentary awards and many other honours, including being featured as the opening film of the Boston LGBT Film Festival and the Canadian Gala at the Victoria International Film Festival. It was recognized by the Canadian government and I was invited on an international Pride mission to Iceland, Finland and Sweden  sponsored by the Canadian embassies.

I’ve also worked on   short films, music videos, web content and made a feature doc about my father and his seven siblings. The Royal Eight received completion funding from the National Film Board of Canada and paints a touching portrait of these eight feisty seniors and their tight knit clan. I love filmmaking, storytelling and people. I’m also willing to discuss RPDR at length.
